Boys' Week of 5/1 Recap

Wayne Invitational:

The Wayne Invitational, hosted at Wayne High School in Dayton, often brings immense excitement and blazing times, and this year was no exception. The meet kicked off on Thursday with an exciting distance medley relay. In one of the most competitive iterations of this event in recent years, Dublin Jerome finished 3rd in 10:22, Hilliard Darby 5th in 10:31, Lancaster 6th in 10:33, and Westerville North 9th in 10:37. The Rising Stars 3200 also took place Thursday night, featuring a trio of impressive performances as Westerville North’s Khalid Guled and Gregory Kerns finished in 9:35 and 9:40, while Hilliard Bradley’s Griffin Ley also ran 9:40.


Distance events kicked off on Day 2 with the 1600, where Westerville North’s Casey Carlos earned a tactical victory in 4:19. Other top finishes included Dublin Jerome’s Ethan Ishida in 4:21, London’s Cameron Carn in 4:21, Hilliard Darby’s Kole Hyer in 4:23, Dublin Jerome’s Hunter Coakley in 4:23, and Westerville North’s Holden Gray in 4:24.


In the 800, the top-placing Central Ohio finisher was Dublin Jerome’s Graham Tyler, who finished 4th in 1:54.42. Other notable performances included Hartley’s Rowan Smith in 1:54.77, Lancaster’s Gabe McNeil in 1:56.34, Dublin Scioto’s Quinn Robinson in 1:56.43, Westerville North’s Casey Carlos in 1:58.25 on the double, and Olentangy Liberty’s Jacob Ogilbee in 1:58.86.


The final distance event of the day was the 3200, which featured equally impressive performances across the board. The fastest Central Ohio competitor was Dublin Scioto’s Michael Kinzer, who finished 3rd in 9:12. Other notable performances included Hilliard Darby’s Logan Behm in 9:16, Olentangy Orange’s Cowen Allender in 9:32, Olentangy Berlin’s Vansh Sethi in 9:32, and Dublin Jerome’s Peter Guerrera in 9:42.


Gary Smith Invitational:

While not at the same level as the Wayne Invitational, there were still several notable results. Gahanna Lincoln’s Ethan LaCross won the 1600 with ease in 4:26. In the 800, a slew of sub-2:00 performances highlighted the event, with Chillicothe’s Jayden Beverly taking the title in 1:55.4, followed by Gahanna Lincoln’s Gavin Swain in 1:57.75, Thomas Worthington’s Wesley Nash in 1:57.86, Marysville’s Mack Weithman in 1:58.06, and Thomas Worthington’s Jonah Hein in 1:58.29.


Rounding out the day was the 3200, where Calvin Watson and Rishi Jha defended their home turf with 9:24 and 9:26 performances, respectively, while Gahanna Lincoln’s Brayden Storch and Granville’s Logan Miller also impressed with matching 9:39 marks.
