Winner: Jack Flanagan

School: Dublin Scioto

Quote: “I was able to prove that I can compete in deeper fields and still place well, I’m confident I’ll be on the podium at states this year, and sub 15:45.”

Highlight:

Dublin Scioto’s Jack Flanagan is off to a strong start in his junior campaign, dropping back-to-back PRs en route to winning your vote for last week’s Runner of the Week award. After opening the season with a 16:35 (a PR at the time) at the Big Walnut Twilight, he followed it up with an 18th-place finish at the highly competitive Hot Summer Bash hosted by Hilliard Davidson. There, Flanagan clocked his current PR of 16:18, showing quick and steady improvement.

As a sophomore, Flanagan broke the 17-minute barrier just once. Now, only a year later, he’s two-for-two in accomplishing that feat, and battling with the 17-flat mark already looks to be a thing of the past. With his rapid progression, Flanagan is confident heading into the rest of the season. “I was able to prove that I can compete in deeper fields… I’m confident I’ll be on the podium at states this year.” While the podium is no easy task, Flanagan is certainly one to watch throughout the season and looks poised to become a major player by next year.
