Buckeye Run Report

Winner: Brock Jarrett
School: Lancaster
“With 600 to go, I started to move up out of the crowd, then just went as hard as I could the last 400 and had enough left to finish with the win.”
Highlight: In what has already been a stellar junior campaign, Brock Jarrett continues to impress with his racing. The latest in a long line of standout distance runners from Lancaster, Jarrett has made a name for himself across multiple events—qualifying for the state meet in cross country, earning indoor All-Ohio honors in the 800, and notching several impressive personal bests. This past weekend, he added another highlight to his resume by winning the 1600m at the Stingel Invite in a time of 4:18 against a loaded field.
The win came as a pleasant surprise for Jarrett. Originally planning to go all-out from the gun, he was forced to reevaluate after falling ill and missing a week of practice. “I started running Wednesday before the meet again and was still pretty sick, so I decided to run it more tactically since that benefits my strong closing speed,” he said. Fortunately, the race played right into his hands, going out at a conservative pace through the first two laps. Jarrett took full advantage, moving up methodically and closing with a blistering 59-second final lap to edge out top competitors like Centerville’s Daniel Emmert and Sheridan’s Tate Ruthers.
The rest of the season promises even more excitement for Jarrett and the Lancaster squad. After earning All-Ohio honors in the indoor 4x800, team goals remain high. “Our team goals for this season are just to continue to improve on our 4x8,” he explained. As for his individual focus: “I just want to keep improving on my racing in big stacked races.” With plenty of season left, Jarrett has ample opportunity to keep building on his momentum and uphold Lancaster’s distance tradition. Look for him to stay hot at this weekend’s Joe Lenge Dublin Classic in our Matchup of the Week.
