It’s been a busy few weeks for me, so our content production hasn’t been what I’ve wanted it to be. Luckily, I’m on spring break with a flight delayed four hours, so I have plenty of time to give you all an in-depth recap of the postseason action from this indoor season, from the OATCCC Indoor State Meet to Nike and New Balance Indoor Nationals. Without further ado, let’s get into it!
OATCCC Indoor State Meet
4x800m: The Division I indoor state meet opened with a signature win from the reigning 4x800m champions, Dublin Jerome. They were the only team to dip under 7:50 in the race, foreshadowing their success at nationals. In what was generally a down season overall for Central Ohio relay squads, Westerville North and Thomas Worthington finished 6th and 10th respectively. There wasn’t much to recap for the Division II meet, with Jonathan Alder’s runner-up finish being the only major performance of note.
1600m: Finishing within a quarter of a second of first place, Brock Jarrett fell just short to Max Friedrich, clocking 4:10.17 in the process. With such a tight finish during the indoor season, we are sure to be in for a treat when they rematch at Jesse Owens in June. Competing after the 4x800m, Jerome’s Graham Tyler and Ethan Ishida finished 6th and 8th respectively, with Vansh Sethi, Kole Hyer, Christian Passerini, and Gordon Kimberly also competing. In Division II, Callum Sproul turned heads with his 3rd-place finish of 4:20.28.
800m:Â It was a stronger showing in the 800m for Central Ohio, with four of the eight All-Ohioans hailing from the area. Leading the charge was Gabe McNeil, who took first place in 1:54.95, followed by Austyn Fox in 3rd place in 1:57.42. Ethan Martinez and Jacob Ogilbee also broke into the top eight, finishing 6th and 7th respectively. In what was a stronger field in Division II, Cameron Carn took 4th place in 1:54.37.
3200m:Â With Mick Temple opting out of the indoor season, Central Ohio lacked a true front-running presence, although half of the competitors in the field came from the region. Six runners from the area finished between 6th and 11th place: Logan Behm, Casey Carlos, Austin Benedict, Rishi Jha, Corbin Morrissey, and Michael Kinzer. Freshman Calvin Watson also finished 13th. In Division II, Grant Hamilton had a big day, finishing as the overall runner-up.
Nike and New Balance Indoor Nationals
There wasn’t quite as much to recap on the boys’ side at the two indoor national meets. However, Central Ohio still produced two All-American relay teams, with Lancaster finishing 8th in the 4x800m at Nike and Dublin Jerome taking 6th in the 4xMile at New Balance.
The indoor season may be over, but the performances from the past few weeks set the stage for what should be an exciting outdoor campaign. Several Central Ohio athletes showed they are already in strong form, whether through state titles, All-Ohio finishes, or All-American relay performances on the national stage. With rematches looming and new contenders continuing to emerge, expect many of these same names to be in the mix again when the outdoor postseason rolls around at Jesse Owens in June.
