We’re back! After a brief hiatus, Buckeye Run Report is excited to return with the coverage this community deserves. In this article, we recap the notable action from the indoor season so far. As a reminder, our coverage moving forward will include Central Ohio schools in both Division I and II. Without further ado, let’s dive in!

800m

To start us off in the 800m, junior Gabe McNeil of Lancaster has turned in several solid performances. McNeil impressed in his first 800m race of the season, running an indoor PR of 1:57.15 at the highly competitive University of Michigan High School Showcase. Following that performance, he displayed his consistency at the Chieftain Grand Prix, running 1:58 to finish second, while his teammate Brock Jarrett finished just behind him in 1:59.37. Jarrett’s ability to perform well in nearly any event is promising for this Lancaster duo, and hopefully they can use each other to their advantage as the season progresses.

The winner of that race, however, was Cameron Carn, a senior from London, who clocked 1:57.63. With this being his debut—and only race so far this season—we’re curious to see what he’ll run next.

Some other notable performances include Rowan Smith of Hartley, who ran an 800m PR in his debut at Wittenberg #1 with a time of 1:58.29, along with Mark Goode, Ryan Foisset, and Jacob Ogilbee, all of whom ran close to the sub‑2:00 barrier. Central Ohio has produced some strong early‑season performances, and hopefully those times will continue to drop as the season moves forward.

1600m

The 1600m field has started out as a tightly knit group, with many athletes running very similar times. The one to separate himself so far is Brock Jarrett of Lancaster. The mile is clearly his primary event, and the Ohio State commit ran an outstanding 4:21 at the University of Michigan High School Showcase.

The next standout performances came from two pairs of teammates, each finishing within fractions of a second of one another. First is the Hilliard Darby duo of Kole Hyer and Logan Behm, who finished within a tenth of a second. Hyer took the win in 4:29.19, with Behm close behind in 4:29.20, showcasing their ability to push each other to the line.

Next are Jerome’s Ethan Ishida and Graham Tyler. Ishida ran 4:29.30, with Tyler following closely in 4:29.90 at Cedarville University. Jerome also placed three additional runners in the top ten, all under 4:40, highlighting the team’s impressive depth.

Other notable performances include Gordon Kimberly of Liberty and Michael Kinzer of Scioto, both of whom ran 4:30. Callum Sproul of Granville also posted a strong 4:33 at the Muskingum meet. These are all Central Ohio runners to keep an eye on as the season continues.

3200m

To wrap things up, we turn to the 3200m, which has easily been the strongest event for Central Ohio runners so far. Once again, Lancaster’s Brock Jarrett makes an appearance, further demonstrating his consistency and well‑rounded ability. Jarrett ran a solid PR of 9:30 at Wittenberg #1, finishing second overall.

Just behind him, Jerome’s top runners showcased their consistency, with Ethan Ishida, Graham Tyler, Lincoln Kelley, and Hunter Coakley finishing 3rd, 4th, 6th, and 8th, respectively. Their times ranged from 9:31 to 9:51, once again highlighting the team’s depth.

Wittenberg #2 was another excellent meet for the 3200m, with many notable names stepping up. Michael Kinzer of Scioto ran 9:31, followed closely by the Hilliard Darby duo of Kole Hyer and Logan Behm, who finished in 9:32 and 9:38. Several others also delivered strong performances, including Vansh Sethi (9:42), Christian Passerini, Cameron Burke, and Brandon Craige, all of whom ran very similar times in the 9:51–9:52 range.

Outside of the Wittenberg meets, there were plenty of strong efforts elsewhere, including Corbin Morrissey and Grant Hamilton, who ran 9:34 and 9:50 at OSU #3, as well as Calvin Watson and Rishi Jha, who clocked 9:44 and 9:45 at OSU #2. This event is loaded with talent and will be one of the most exciting to watch as the season transitions outdoors.

Overall, we’re very pleased with Central Ohio’s performances so far and have high hopes as the season progresses. The 3200m clearly has the most depth and potential at this point, but the 1600m and 800m are shaping up nicely as well. We’re glad to be back delivering quality race coverage, and we hope you enjoyed our recap of the indoor season so far!
