About the candidates:
Matthew Schroff: The Michigan State Spartan-bound senior from Olentangy Orange defended his indoor 1600m state title, closing with a mind-boggling 53.6-second final lap to win the outdoor 1600m state title in 4:07.
Tate Ruthers: Sheridan senior Tate Ruthers capped off his OHSAA high school career with an incredible race; clocking a personal best of 9:00 in the 3200m to earn a state runner-up finish.
Ethan Ishida: The ever-consistent junior from Dublin Jerome delivered another strong 1600m performance, running 4:14 to place sixth and secure a spot on the podium.
Gabe McNeil: Just a sophomore from Lancaster, McNeil was Central Ohio’s top finisher—and its only podium athlete—in the 800m, running a personal best of 1:52.8 to take sixth place.
