Boys' Week of 4/17 Recap

Week of 4/10 Runner of the Week:

Last week’s Boys Runner of the Week was DeSales junior Lucas Steele, who captured the Hilliard Premier 3200 title in 9:34. Facing a strong field, he won convincingly and broke the 10‑minute barrier for the first time — a major milestone in his development. Although he cooled off after a fast start to last fall’s cross country season, his early‑season momentum on the track suggests he is positioning himself to become one of the region’s top 3200 talents this spring and a legitimate regional contender on the grass next year.

Joe Lenge Dublin Classic:

The Joe Lenge Dublin Classic delivered the week’s premier distance matchups, with competitive results across all three events. The 1600 unfolded as a tactical race, with Hilliard Darby’s Kole Hyer closing best to win in 4:33. Thomas Worthington’s Fraser Kirk followed in 4:34, and Dublin Jerome’s Lincoln Kelly placed third in 4:36. The 800 produced faster marks, highlighted by Dublin Jerome’s duo of Graham Tyler (1:56.8) and Ethan Ishida (1:57.1). Thomas Worthington’s Jonah Hein was close behind in 1:57.3, while Dublin Scioto’s Quinn Robinson dipped under two minutes in 1:59.97. The deepest event of the meet was the 3200, with seven area athletes breaking 9:50. Dublin Jerome’s Carter Hutchinson claimed the win in 9:23, followed by Thomas Worthington’s Calvin Watson and Rishi Jha at 9:25. Hilliard Darby’s Logan Behm (9:38) and Cameron Burke (9:45), Dublin Jerome’s Hunter Coakley (9:46), and Dublin Coffman’s Ben Canales (9:47) rounded out the top group.

Delaware Hayes Invitational:

Though smaller in size, the Delaware Hayes Invitational produced several notable performances. Big Walnut swept the top two spots in the 1600, with Gabe Zielinski and Quincy Varughese running 4:34. Delaware Hayes sophomore Aaron Maus delivered a breakout win in the 800 at 1:57.4, with Big Walnut’s Jamison Brandt runner‑up in 1:59.75. The 3200 was tightly contested, with Olentangy Liberty’s Gordon Kimberly taking the victory in 9:41. Olentangy Berlin’s Vansh Sethi followed in 9:44, while Olentangy Orange’s Cowen Allender and Delaware Hayes’ Tyler Stricker each crossed in 9:49.

New Albany Eagle Invite:

The New Albany Eagle Invite featured strong marks across all distance events. The 1600 was controlled from the front, with New Albany’s Austin Benedict winning decisively in 4:26. Hartley’s Rowan Smith claimed the 800 title in 1:56.0, followed by New Albany’s Lavon Wilborn (1:57.4), Westerville Central’s Corbin Morrisey (1:57.8), Watkins Memorial’s Ethan Martinez (1:59.5), and Westerville Central’s Alex Hohman (1:59.6). The 3200 produced another close finish, with Watterson’s Jack Hangen winning in 9:43. New Albany’s Ian Berberich and Westerville Central’s Andrew Gould followed in 9:48.

Other Action:

Several Central Ohio athletes traveled to Eastern Relays in Louisville. Lancaster’s Gabe McNeil ran 4:23 in the mile, while Lancaster’s Brock Jarrett and Dublin Scioto’s Michael Kinzer posted strong 3200 marks of 9:19 and 9:34 respectively.
