Highlight:
Delaware Hayes junior Cali Kent qualified for her second regional track meet this past weekend, breaking through with a new personal best in the 1600. Reflecting on her race, Cali shared, “I was so happy with my race last week. I’ve been progressing steadily throughout the season, and that was the breakthrough race for me.”
After opening her season with a 5:18, she dropped to 5:14 at conferences and then down to 5:06 at districts. Even in a deep and competitive field, she held her own, placing fourth to secure a spot at regionals in Northeast Ohio. While the season hasn’t always been easy, Cali noted, “I’ve broken down lots of mental barriers this season, and that was my time to show it.”
Though her season has now come to a close, the Hayes junior is well-positioned to compete with the best in her senior year. She’s already looking ahead, sharing that her “future goal is to qualify for the state meet.” If her current trajectory continues, that goal is well within reach—even in one of the state’s most competitive regions.
