Quote: “I had worked really hard this season so I wanted my last state to be a good one!”
Highlight:
After the Lady Lions’ incredible season, where they held the number one ranking in the state from start to finish, senior Ruby Lewis capped it off by leading the team to a Division I state title. Following her outstanding performance at Obetz, where she placed 6th in 18:06, Lewis has earned this week’s Runner of the Week award.
Entering the season, Lewis’s personal record was 18:34 from last year’s Celtic Clash. Now, one year later, she ran a 17:49 at the same meet, cutting 45 seconds off her previous best. Her season has been remarkably consistent, reflecting her hard work and determination. The Lions’ main focus this year was to win the state championship, and Lewis played a vital role in making that happen. Alongside teammates Abigail Young, Jillian Gomez, and Olivia Smeck, she helped secure a dominant team victory with 81 points. After feeling disappointed with her performance at states last year, she more than redeemed herself this time around.
Looking ahead, Lewis is excited to compete at NXR with her team, acknowledging the tough competition but eager for the challenge. Coming off a state title, it will be exciting to see what she and the Lady Lions can accomplish on the national stage. Lewis also has a bright future on the track, where she excels in both the 1600m and 3200m. Congratulations, Ruby, and best of luck to you and your teammates!
