Boys Runners of the Week - Conferences

Winners: Jacob Reash and Charles Rizek
School: St. Francis DeSales
Highlight: The dynamic duo from DeSales dominated the CCL Championship, crossing the finish line side by side to help secure the CCL team title.
It’s been a storybook season for the formidable pair from St. Francis DeSales, and what better way to continue their final chapter than winning the inaugural Buckeye Run Report Runner of the Week award? While expectations were high for them at the start of the season, Reash and Rizek have far surpassed those and lifted their team in the process. With questions about the Stallions' depth now answered, they are just under two weeks from potentially punching their ticket to Fortress Obetz—not just as individuals, but as a team.
Cross-country can be a demanding sport, but finding joy in it is key to avoiding burnout. Reash and Rizek have certainly figured that out and are making the most of their senior seasons.
“The most fun I have ever had in a race was at CCLs. Finishing out our XC career together in this way was so special. I wouldn’t trade it for anything,” said Reash about their CCL victory. Rizek echoed the sentiment: “CCLs was so much fun… running through the finish line all together is a memory and a feeling I’ll cherish forever.”
With their conference victory behind them, the duo now shifts focus to the upcoming District Championships. While a qualification seems certain, Reash, Rizek, and their team are determined to make a statement.
“[Our] biggest goal for the postseason is District champs and state qualification as a team,” said Rizek when asked about their postseason ambitions. Given the Stallions' depth and the strength of this duo, they seem well on their way to achieving both. Reash added, “This postseason we know as a team we can do great things.”
The duo's emphasis on team success rather than individual achievements highlights the leadership they’ve provided, helping elevate the program to new heights. Their influence will likely inspire the next generation of Stallion runners. Still, beyond team success, Reash and Rizek are not only two of the top runners in the region, but also in the state. As the race for the state title approaches, both are in prime position to earn All-State honors.
