About the candidates:
Charlie Guerrera (Dublin Jerome)
The Dublin Jerome senior and Syracuse commit capped off his high school career with a dominant outdoor season. Guerrera won regional titles in the 1600, 3200, and 4x800 — shattering the regional records in both the 1600 and 4x800 in the process. He followed that up with runner-up finishes in both the 1600 and 4x800 at the OHSAA State Championships, solidifying himself as one of the top all-around distance runners in Ohio.
Matthew Schroff (Olentangy Orange)
Olentangy Orange senior and Michigan State commit Matthew Schroff had a remarkable postseason. He finished as the regional runner-up in both the 1600 and 800, while also helping his team qualify for states in the 4x800 relay. At the state meet, Schroff delivered a signature performance, winning the Division I 1600m title and adding to his impressive résumé that already included an indoor 1600 state championship.
Tate Ruthers (Sheridan)
In his lone season competing in Division I, Sheridan senior and Ohio University commit Tate Ruthers made a major impact. He placed 3rd in the 1600 at regionals and went on to earn state runner-up honors in the 3200. His performances solidified his place among Ohio’s elite distance athletes.
Jayden Beverly (Chillicothe)
Chillicothe junior Jayden Beverly had a breakout postseason, capturing the regional title in the 800 and qualifying for the state meet. He finished 11th at states in a tightly contested final, gaining valuable experience and setting himself up as a top contender for next year.
