Winner: Elena Aldrink
School: Olentangy Liberty
Quote: “I’m really excited for the season ahead!”
Highlight:
Olentangy Liberty senior Elena Aldrink captured a decisive victory at the Pickerington North XC Classic, opening her season with a strong 17:46 and defeating a field stacked with many of the region’s top runners. With a win at what is essentially a regional preview meet, all eyes are now on Aldrink as the favorite for the regional title in October—though she’ll have plenty of challengers looking to chase her down.
It’s encouraging to see Aldrink back in form after a challenging outdoor track season. While she improved several personal bests, she had an unfortunate off day at districts, going out hard in the 3200 and narrowly missing regional and state qualification despite being the reigning 2024 outdoor state champion in the event. This fall, cross country offers her a chance at redemption.
Reflecting on her race, Aldrink said, “I’m really excited for the season ahead. I’ve been working hard all summer to get where I am now.” With a strong base under her belt, she has the talent and momentum to contend for a cross country state title this season. Expect her to be pushed by fellow standouts like Katy Zang and Natalie Fouts as the season unfolds. We’re excited to see what’s next for her in 2025.
