Winner: Kole Hyer
School: Hilliard Darby
Quote: “My goal is to help lead Hilliard Darby back to the state championships as a team, something that has not happened since 2015. I’m excited to continue that momentum and push forward.”
Highlight:
Kole Hyer took home a 3rd-place finish at the Lancaster Bob Reall Invite in 15:43 to earn your vote for Runner of the Week. Prior to this meet, Hyer claimed the individual title at the Central Ohio Invite in a blistering 15:38. He is beginning to round into excellent form and will look to carry that momentum into the postseason. “My goal is to help lead Hilliard Darby back to the state championships as a team, something that has not happened since 2015,” Hyer said. He is determined to put Darby back on the state map—and very well might do so. The 4:17 miler on the track has big plans for this fall.
“After coming close to qualifying for state as an individual last season, I now understand what I’m capable of achieving this year,” Hyer added. His eyes are set not only on leading his team to the state meet but also on punching his own individual ticket. The Darby senior placed 27th at regionals last year, which positions him well to qualify this fall. His strong closing speed could prove crucial if the race comes down to a kick. Keep an eye on Hyer and the Darby Panthers this postseason.
