Winner: Lincoln Kelly
School: Dublin Jerome
Quote: “I knew I had that fitness going into the race, and there’s nothing stopping me from getting All-Ohio.”
Highlight:
Dublin Jerome senior Lincoln Kelly officially put his name on the map with a breakthrough performance in the OCC Cardinal Division race, finishing as the runner-up by less than a second. Though he couldn’t quite hold off Hilliard Darby’s Kole Hyer, Kelly led the race until the final 50 meters, clocking a major personal best of 15:32. Aside from an uncharacteristic off day at the Trinity/Valkyrie Invitational, he has shown steady improvement throughout the season. Reflecting on his progress, Kelly said, “I knew I had that fitness going into the race, and there’s nothing stopping me from getting All-Ohio.”
Just days after his standout conference performance, Kelly announced his commitment to the University of Indiana- Indianapolis, where he’ll join a talented group of runners that includes Ohio natives Zane and Carter Schorr, Riley Nixon, and Michael Zegarski. With a strong collegiate program and clear upward trajectory, Kelly’s future looks bright.
When asked for any additional thoughts, Kelly simply replied, “No, I’m humble. I’ll wait for the after-the-state-meet interview.” The postseason should be an exciting one for Kelly and the Celtics, who will look to exorcise their postseason demons. If they can peak at the right time, Dublin Jerome has a legitimate shot at a regional title and a podium finish at the state meet.
