Girls 4x800m Relay Regional Rankings

ree

Note: These rankings assume each team uses its strongest lineup at the regional meet. They are projections based on expected performances rather than current marks.

  1. Hilliard Davidson: There’s no overstating how dominant the Wildcats’ 800m squad has been this year. Celia Schulte is one of the best 800m runners in the country, and Davidson boasts four of the seven fastest 800m runners in the region. The question isn’t if they’ll win—but by how much. While the future of Davidson’s distance program may be uncertain with the departure of two coaches, the Wildcats appear poised to close this chapter with a historic season.

  2. Lancaster: The reigning cross country state champion Golden Gales enter as our #2 ranked squad. While they have a very strong team, Davidson’s firepower is difficult to match. Lancaster will be led by Harper Allen and Marisa Heil, supported by strong depth from Brooke Derringer and Ava Parrett. Though they haven’t posted standout open 800m times this spring, their proven success and depth from the cross country season should translate well to the track.

  3. Dublin Jerome: Another strong cross country team that we expect to carry its momentum into the postseason, the Celtics will rely on standout Natalie Fouts, backed by Ella Watson and Abbie McBrearty—both of whom have already broken 2:25 this season. If they can find a solid fourth leg, Jerome will be a serious contender at regionals.

  4. Olentangy Liberty: The Lady Patriots are perennial threats in the 4x800, and 2024 is no exception. Bridget Snider headlines the team with a personal best of 2:17 and a season’s best of 2:20. Liberty also has four additional runners under 2:30 this season. With postseason experience on their side, expect to see the Patriots competing at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.

  5. Olentangy Orange: Outside of Celia Schulte, no runner in the region can match Brooke Chapman. Her blistering 4:52 1600m ranks among the fastest in state history, and she’ll be the driving force behind Orange’s 4x8. Sophomore Bella Conforti will be key to their success, and with two more runners under 2:35, Orange has enough firepower to contend for a state-qualifying spot.

  6. Olentangy Berlin: After a shaky and somewhat underwhelming cross country season, Berlin looks to rebound on the track. Elliano Alonso, ranks fifth in the region individually, providing a strong anchor. Evelyn Joseph has run 2:24, and Grace Heitkamp is a top-10 regional performer in the 3200m. If the Bears can secure a reliable fourth leg, this team could shake things up.

  7. Gahanna Lincoln: The ever-reliable Lions are once again in the regional mix. Ruby Lewis is having a breakout season and currently ranks fifth in the region in the 3200m. With two other runners under 2:25 and likely support from Olivia Smeck—who’s run 11:10 for 3200m—Gahanna has both the experience and elite coaching to make a serious push for state.

  8. Upper Arlington: Rounding out our projected scoring teams is Upper Arlington. Josie Cox leads the way with a 2:21 PR, coming off a strong cross country season. Although they’ve shown limited open 800m marks this spring, Morgan Hamilton has run 5:17 for the 1600m, and UA ended the XC season on a high note. Banking on another big postseason, we’re picking the Golden Bears as a sleeper to snag a scoring spot.
