Week of 2/15 Girls Recap

This was a very unique weekend for action around the state. Why was it unique, you may ask? Well, most of the best performances from Central Ohio athletes took place outside of Ohio. So, I decided to switch things up a bit and dedicate more attention to these individual performances rather than focusing on a particular meet (don’t worry; I’ll still be covering plenty of local content as well).
Obviously, the performance I'm referring to is Celia Schulte’s 2:08.92 for 800 meters. Schulte ran this time as an unattached individual at Boston University’s David Hemery Valentine Invitational against collegiate and professional competition.
Now, I’m sure I don’t need to explain how incredible that performance is, but I’ll go ahead and do so. This time ranks Schulte as the second-fastest indoor performer in Ohio history (according to Milesplit’s database), behind only Big Ten Champion Danielle Pfeiffer. For this year, it makes Schulte the overall state leader and the 10th fastest in the nation.
Turning back to the rest of Central Ohio, Schulte wasn’t the only one to clock a fast 800 meters this weekend. At the Central District Indoor Championships, Dublin Coffman senior Deana Hudson took the win in the 800 meters with a personal best of 2:24.00. Similarly, Lancaster junior Harper Allen had an impressive victory at the Chieftain Mini Invite last Wednesday with a time of 2:23.99.
At the aforementioned Chieftain Mini Invite, Miami (OH) commit and Lancaster superstar Marisa Heil broke the five-minute barrier indoors for the first time in her career, stopping the clock at 4:59.80. Another Central Ohio athlete who had a standout weekend was Thomas Worthington sophomore Lainey Fauth. Fauth ran a personal best at Kent State, completing 1600 meters in 5:11 and winning the 3200 meters with a time of 11:33.
Speaking of Thomas Worthington, they also won the 4x800 relay this weekend at Kent State. While Thomas Worthington had a strong performance in the 4x800, it was actually the Olentangy Orange Pioneers who posted the fastest time of the weekend, clocking in at 9:47 to take the win at the Otterbein High School Qualifier #3.
