Winner: Chelsee Fischer
School: Hilliard Bradley
Quote: “I’m excited for the season ahead… in the offseason I put in countless hours of work to get faster and stronger… This race was a huge milestone, but the best is still ahead.”
Highlight:
Rising superstar Chelsee Fischer took home this week’s Runner of the Week award thanks to a strong showing at the Westerville North Invite. She wasted no time making her mark at the high school level, backing up her 15th-place finish at the State Preview Meet with a 3rd-place effort in 18:53 at Westerville North. Fischer was dominant at the middle school level last year, never finishing lower than 3rd in any cross country race during her 8th-grade campaign. While clearly talented, she also has the work ethic to match. “In the offseason I put in countless hours of work to get faster and stronger.”
Despite being just a freshman, she has already shown the maturity of a seasoned runner.
“I wouldn’t be where I am without the support of my coaches and teammates who always challenge me to be better,” Fischer said when asked about the start of her season. She also has her own internal drive, adding, “I want to make my younger self proud by becoming everything she once hoped for.” It’s fair to say that while Fischer will be a contender in the region this year, she’s on track to become one of the best in the region over the next few seasons.
